Temper Trap’s third album is a step back in the right direction. Where I accepted their Self-Titled album, I wasn’t overly impressed with it outside of “Rabbit Hole”. On the other hand, most of Thick As Thieves is a great compilation of songs that showcase the band’s talent and drive to create better music.
“Thick As Thieves” kicks off the album and sets the tone for what’s to come. Singer, Dougy Mandagi, voice comes in with “Anywhere you are/We are never far/Want you to feel safe and sound/Safe and sound” in his unique falsetto style of singing. The song continues to build and gain momentum that excites the listener for the rest of the album.
Single, “Fall Together” is one of the better singles that has come out this year. It’s surprisingly uplifting and musically fun.
The other singles “Burn” and “Alive” come before and after “Fall Together” respectively. Both are great for radio friendly listens but ultimately feel very similar to each other as both songs use similar words in the lyrics. Overall, “Alive” is the better track of the two.
“Riverina” is my favorite track from the album, by far. It is a fun, light Rock song with simple but catchy guitar riffs and a strong chorus.
The end of the standard album comes with “Ordinary World”
“Providence” and “On the Run” are two of the extra tracks that are on the Deluxe version of the album.
